The streets of Lahore were bustling with energy. Everywhere you looked, there were flags fluttering, children with painted faces, and stalls selling badges and other patriotic merchandise. It was 14th August, Pakistan's Independence Day.

Amir, a boy of 12, was excitedly running around with his friends, 

Purchasing flags and decorating his house. He had saved up his pocket money for weeks to buy the largest flag he could afford. As he made his way through the crowds, he spotted an old man sitting quietly by the roadside, selling small hand-made flags.

The old man's flags were unique and unlike the machine-made ones that were sold elsewhere. They were crafted with precision, each stripe and star sewn with dedication. However, they were priced higher than the others.

Amir, intrigued, approached the old man and asked, "Why are your flags more expensive than the ones sold by others?"

The old man looked up with a gentle smile, "These flags, my boy, carry the essence of our struggles and the sacrifices of our ancestors. They are not just pieces of cloth; they are symbols of our nation's spirit."

Amir pondered over the old man's words. He realized that while he was busy celebrating with extravagant purchases, he had forgotten the true essence of the day. It wasn’t about how big a flag he could buy or how grandly he could celebrate. It was about understanding the sacrifices made by countless souls for the freedom and sovereignty of Pakistan.

Amir purchased one of the old man’s flags, not minding the higher cost. He felt a deep sense of pride and responsibility holding the meticulously crafted flag.

That evening, Amir shared the story with his family, and together they hung the hand-made flag alongside their other decorations. It served as a reminder of the profound meaning of Independence Day.

It's essential to recognize and respect the true essence and significance behind celebrations. True patriotism isn't about grand gestures or showy displays but about understanding, appreciation, and respect for the sacrifices that have led to our freedom.
